EEC and Partners Launch the Thailand SynBio Consortium to Drive Future Bioeconomy and Sustainability

On 11 November 2025, the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO) joined the SynBio Forum 2025 to officially launch the Thailand SynBio Consortium as a key national partner under the concept “Greater Impact through Collaboration.” The initiative aims to unite policy agencies, research institutes, private sectors, and youth from both domestic and international levels to promote synthetic biology as a future technology driving economic growth, social development, and national sustainability.

The event was honored by H.E. Mr. Surasak Phancharoenworakul, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), who congratulated the official signing of the Consortium. He emphasized its role in connecting universities, research institutes, government agencies, and the private sector under the vision: “Synthetic Biology – Creating New Economic Opportunities for a Sustainable Thailand based on the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model.” He also highlighted three key MHESI policies—innovation-driven economy, high-quality human capital development, and green growth—which align with Thailand’s SynBio development goals.

The SynBio Forum 2025 also featured seminars and key sessions throughout the day, notably the “Business Matching for Global Solutions” platform, showcasing SynBio’s businesses and technologies from various countries. Dr. Cholachit Vorawangso Virakul, Deputy Secretary-General of EECO, delivered the opening remarks and presented an overview of BCG-related industrial development and investment opportunities within the EEC area. The session included presentations from leading biotechnology companies from Japan and medical innovation firms from Hong Kong, as well as a showcase of international SynBio enterprises, fostering research–industry linkages and business collaboration between Thai and international partners.

The event was supported by more than 10 domestic and international organizations, including IEAT, EECi, PMUC, FTI, JETRO, HKTDC, Singapore Business Federation (SBF), Miibio Inc., Midori Climate Partner, and EDD Health (Thailand), and welcomed over 200 participants.
