Delegation from Mongolia Visits the EEC to Study Special Economic Zone Development and Infrastructure Supporting Target Industries

On 9 February 2026, Dr. Chula Sukmanop, Secretary-General of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO), assigned Dr. Cholachit Vorawangso Virakul, Assistant Secretary-General, to welcome a delegation from Mongolia led by Dr. Enkhbold Vorshilov, Advisor/ Counselor for International Trade and Economic Affairs of Mongolia. The visit was part of the program “Empowering Mongolia: Advanced Training in Free Trade Agreement Strategies and Trade Negotiation Excellence,” a short-term training course organized by the International Institute for Trade and Development (Public Organization) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation conducted a one-day study visit to learn about special economic zone development and key infrastructure supporting target industries in the EEC area.
Dr. Cholachit Vorawangso Virakul, together with Ms. Aphitchaya Srikacha, Executive Director of the Service and Medical Industries Division, delivered a presentation titled “Understanding the EEC’s role in fostering economic integration and trade facilitation.” The session provided an overview of EEC development, infrastructure readiness for investment, and the EEC’s role in strengthening Thailand’s modern economy and its integration with regional and global markets.
The delegation then visited the EEC Automation Park, a center for testing and developing automation and robotics technologies. The center serves as a major hub for advancing workforce skills in automation and showcases successful collaboration between industry and academic institutions in supporting Thailand’s strategic industries.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the “Miracle of Natural” exhibition at PTTLNG in Rayong Province, where they learned about Thailand’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, including receiving, regasification, and storage processes, as well as the role of energy technologies in ensuring the nation’s energy security, as well as the innovative use of cold energy from the LNG production process to cultivate cool-climate crops such as tulips, hydrangeas, strawberries, and wasabi—demonstrating potential new economic crops for the country. This aspect of the visit drew significant interest from the delegation.
This study visit reflects the strong collaboration between Thailand and Mongolia, enhancing the delegation’s understanding of Thailand’s economic and industrial ecosystem—particularly the potential of the EEC in supporting the development of strategic industries in the region.
