
On the 6th May 2026, the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) welcomed a Canadian delegation led by Mr. Darren Smith, Chief Negotiator for the Canada–Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Executive Director of the Indo-Pacific Trade Policy Division, during their visit to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in Chonburi Province to explore Thailand’s infrastructure and digital technology development potential.
On this occasion, Mr. Nussati Khaneekul, Director of the Investment Strategy Division of EECO, together with relevant executives and officials, welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of major development projects within the EEC area.
In the morning, the delegation visited AIS EEC (Evolution Experience Center), a hub for learning and collaboration in digital technology established by AIS Business. The center showcases AIS Business’s vision under the concept “AIS Business: DIGITAL EVOLUTION for Sustainable Nation,” which aims to leverage intelligent infrastructure and digital network capabilities to strengthen Thailand’s business and industrial sectors, enhance national competitiveness, and support sustainable economic growth.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi Province to receive updates on the progress of the Laem Chabang Port Development Phase 3 Project, one of the key infrastructure projects under the EEC initiative. The project plays a significant role in enhancing Thailand’s logistics and transportation capabilities to support growing regional trade and investment.
The visit aimed to strengthen understanding of the EEC’s infrastructure, digital technology capabilities, and economic development potential, while also providing an opportunity to exchange views on trade and investment policies between Thailand and Canada under the framework of Indo-Pacific economic cooperation.
