
Recently, the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO) welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), alongside executives and officials from the Institute of Area Studies, Thammasat University. The visit featured an institutional visit and a briefing on operations within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
This visit was organized as part of the training program “Analyzing the Global Strategic Situation and Enhancing Diplomatic Negotiation Skills in an Era of Volatility,” a collaborative initiative between Thammasat University and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the session, the EECO shared key knowledge and operational experiences, which included (1) Area management strategies to promote economic activities. (2) Proactive measures and strategies to attract foreign investment amidst global economic volatility. (3) Lessons learned from the development of the special economic zone. (4) Promoting opportunities for economic connectivity between Thailand and Lao PDR to foster sustainable regional growth.
The delegation from Lao PDR expressed particular interest in the measure allowing investors to lease real estate for up to 99 years. They were also highly interested in the utilization of privileges from Thailand’s 17 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), highlighting their non-discriminatory nature and compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations. Meanwhile, the EECO emphasized the importance of clean energy and green technology, noting them as crucial prerequisites for attracting modern global capital.
