On 22 July 2026, the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) participated in the Mekong Forum 2026 Side Event, “Pioneering Sustainable Hubs in the Lancang-Mekong Region,” at Grande Centre Point Lumphini, Bangkok. The event was held as the Mekong Institute (MI) celebrated its 30th anniversary of advancing regional cooperation and sustainable development. It was organized by MI in collaboration with Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, with support from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund.
Dr. Cholachit Vorawangso Virakul, Assistant Secretary-General of EECO, highlighted the EEC’s readiness as an investment destination. She presented its strategic location, connectivity to global markets, major infrastructure projects, promotional zones, and demand-driven workforce development. She also outlined EECO’s tailor-made incentives and investment facilitation services, which assess projects based on their strategic, economic, environmental, and social contributions.
Mr. Angsutorn Wasusun, Executive Director of the Bio-Circular-Green Economy Division, presented BCG investment opportunities supporting Thailand’s Net-Zero goal. Priority areas include food and agriculture, biofuels and biochemicals, renewable energy, hydrogen, green and circular manufacturing, and waste management and recycling. He also highlighted supporting policies, investment incentives, and EECO’s one-stop services for energy-related licenses and permits.
Through this initiative, MI aims to attract high-quality and potential green investors from China and connect them with EEC projects and industrial priorities. The event strengthened cooperation among public agencies, industrial estate operators, investors, and technology providers to position the EEC as a sustainable, high-tech, and low-carbon industrial hub. The session brought together more than 80 participants from government agencies, the private sector, development organizations, and other regional stakeholders.
