H.E. Mr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Chinese statesmen led by State Councilor HE Mr. Wang Yong, and over 500 executives from Chinese state enterprises and private corporations. The delegation was also welcomed by Uttama Savanayana, Minister of Industry, Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and Kanit Sangsubhan, Secretary General of the EEC Office. During this official visit to Thailand, the Chinese delegates will also be visiting the key landmarks of the EEC.
This marks as the first time in Thai history that more than 500 members of both public and private sector from the People’s Republic of China, led by HE Mr. Wang Yong, have officially visit Thailand for the 6th Thailand-China Joint Committee Meeting. Moreover, the delegation also joined the “Thailand – China Business Forum 2018: Strategic Partnership through the Belt and Road Initiative and the EEC” seminar, which offered great opportunities for Chinese businesspeople to connect with both Thai and other Chinese corporations, as well as building networks for both Thai and Chinese companies through business matching event.
In addition to the seminar, the Chinese delegates have visited the EEC landmarks and had the opportunity to learn more about the EEC in order to get a better picture of what the EEC represents and sense the EEC’s potential as the Thai Government’s most important strategic project that supports the transformation of Thailand in accordance to the “Thailand 4.0” strategy. Those landmarks included
1 ) U-Tapao International Airport 2) Laem Chabang Industrial Estate 3) Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 4) The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) 5) Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC).
Uttama Savanayana, Minister of Industry said that this time the visit of both the public and private sector from China has given us the most valuable thing which is “morale”, which will drive the EEC to its success, leading to more opportunities to host investors and businesspeople from China and other countries as important partners of the EEC in due course. He also added that the EEC will be a platform for building a new and greater economic prosperity, which will happen with larger investments that will build up competitiveness enhancement in manufacturing and high value services, to create innovations and develop human resources, which matches the goal of China’s Industry 4.0 Policy.
Kanit Sangsubhan, Secretary General of the EEC Office said that for the past few months, the EEC has made great progress in many aspects, in particularly cooperation with many sectors, including the public and private sector, as well as the “Belt and Road Initiative”. A great development strategy that not only empowers Asia through international cooperation, but can also change the world, especially China and ASEAN. Therefore, the strong economic foundation of CLMVT or ACMECS will lead to a stronger ASEAN, which is why the North-South Economic Corridor from Kunming through Laos to EEC, which connects with East-West Economic Corridor will be beneficial to all countries, e.g. Southern China to EEC through the gulf of Thailand while Laos uses it as a path throughout the ocean and Cambodia uses Laem Chabang Port as the main port for export.
Moreover, the connectivity between the railways and the air of China - Laos – Thailand was not created for only the 3 provinces, but was designated as the driving force of the Thai economy to the development of CLMVT and China's One Belt One Road project. As today marks another important step where both public and private sectors of China recognise the potential of the ECC and paid a visit to initiate the cooperation in the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on the development of the Industry 4.0.
Pichet Dangrongvej, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, said that today Thailand can connect with other regions around the world with technology. In terms of both investment and human development in the area as well as the use of digital in economic and social development. There are many continuality of joint venture between Chinese entrepreneurs, Thai companies and government. Today is also a great opportunity for Thailand and China to collaborate in the development in many aspects of technology by signing the Memorandum of Understanding on Principle Term Sheet of Thailand – Hong Kong Cable between CAT Telecom Public Company Limited and CAC Telecom International Limited Underwater Cable Technology Internet Information Center Development of a test field and a partner for early 5G technology. This will connect Thailand to One Belt One Road and will be beneficial to both countries.
